Could the Shiba Inu be the perfect dog for you?

Discover Their Unique Traits and Personality!

If anyone knows about Shibu Inus it’s Professor Akira! If you’re looking for the perfect mix of independent but faithful and confident, then one of these gorgeous, loyal dogs might just be for you.

Shiba Inus are a small-to-medium sized dog (the smallest of the Spitz breed) and are native to Japan with a rich and long history. They are a compact dog with a muscular build, on average weighing about 8-10.5kg, with a lifespan of around 13-15 years. They’re double coated and their outer fur is straight and thick and can vary in colour including red, orange, yellow, black, tan or sesame.

Shibas are known for their bold personalities and their independence. The Japanese have three words to describe them: kaani-i (spirited boldness), ryosei (good nature) and soboku (alertness). When these traits are combined, they make an interesting and intelligent breed. They have quick reflexes and are naturally attuned to learning new things.

These clever, yet sometimes wilful dogs require at least one hour of exercise daily to keep them healthy and happy, but it’s also important to give them a mental workout as, with any dog they can be destructive when bored of full of pent-up energy. They’re not excessive barkers which makes them perfect apartment dogs. When they do bark, it’s to warn their humans of someone at the door or a sound they heard. On occasion, Shiba Inus will howl like wolves!
