Why Dogs Are Our Best Friends

5 Heartwarming Reasons

Dog lovers have long claimed dogs as one of their closest and best companions, proving themselves as our protectors, helpers, lifesavers, and loyal friends.

They love you unconditionally and have an exceptional ability to pick up on your emotions, and it’s hard to imagine a world without them in it.

1. They love us unconditionally

Dogs aren’t complicated. All they want is love, a warm home, food and exercise. Once they love us it’s going to be forever and it’s unconditional. They desire companionship as much as we do, and if you open your home and your heart to a dog the rewards will be greater than you could ever imagine.

2. They are always excited to see us

Even if you’ve just popped out to the shops for five minutes, you’ll get the same excited welcome as if you’d been gone a month. Their concept of time differs greatly from ours and they can’t wait for us to get home to shower us with love and affection. If only we got the same kind of welcome from the human members of the household!

3. They protect us

Having a dog is like having a security guard. Dogs view their owners as part of their pack and therefore inherently feel the need to protect them when threatened. They also naturally protect things they consider their own, such as their home or shelter, and resources such as food, toys, and dog beds. Dog owners say they feel more secure with a dog in the house and according to the police, thieves are much less likely to target a house where a dog can disturb them and alert the owners to the robbery.

4. They have incredible skills and talent

Over the centuries we’ve bred dogs to do lots of different jobs. Talent and skills differ from breed to breed, but they include guiding the blind, assisting people with illness, disabilities and mental health issues, detecting cancer and epileptic seizures and sniffing out bombs and drugs. They can also act as part of a search and rescue team, both on land and at sea, and as canine officers in law enforcement and military operations. They really are exceptional.

5. They can benefit our health

Having a dog is one of the best ways to ensure daily exercise for both you and your pooch. Indeed, dogs increase our physical activity, stimulate us mentally and make us happier. Thanks to them, physical activity becomes a fun thing to do together and that’s good for your heart, waistline and head. Getting out in the fresh air and exploring new places stimulate our brains and help to relieve stress, lower blood pressure and release loads of those really good endorphins. Dogs are a wonderful source of support and companionship and have the ability to reassure you in their own unique way. The love that they give us is priceless and their presence is a perfect cure for loneliness.

For most dog owners, their furry friends are more than just a pet. They are family. They will always be by our side. Dogs are and will always be man’s best friend.
